Descubierto por el USAS en 1939-1941. Denominado Mount Shelby por el capitán de fragata Finne-Ronne en 1948. El nombre actual corresponde al apellido del capitán de bandada Eduardo Iensen Franke, Fuerza Aérea de Chile, jefe de operaciones aéreas de la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1947. Cerro de aproximadamente 1.500 metros de elevación, que se levanta entre los glaciares Daspit y Bills Gulch en el fondo de la ensenada Trail, en la costa E de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
