El nombre corresponde al apellido del cabo 1º fogonero Clorindo Léniz Gallego, de la escampavía "Yelcho" de la Armada de Chile, quien participó en el rescate de los náufragos de la Expedición Británica de Sir Ernest Shackleton, en 1916. Punta que constituye el extremo oriental de la isla Gándara, separada de la costa occidental de la península Tierra de O'Higgins por el paso Yelcho.
