El nombre corresponde al apellido del suboficial (Tp.) Eduardo Pacheco R., de la PF. "Baquedano" de la Armada de Chile, que participó en un trascendental desembarco en la isla Pedro I, durante la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1956. Cabo frente al cual confluyen el paso Gunnel, el canal Barlas y el paso Tickle, en la angostura Gullet, entre la isla Adelaida y la costa W de la península de O'Higgins.
