El nombre fue colocado por personal científico del Instituto Antártico Chileno durante la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1990-1991, debido a la existencia en este lugar de colonias de reproducción de pingüinos papúas. Pequeña playa que se ubica inmediatamente al NNE de la playa Antártico, en la costa N del cabo Shirreff de la isla Livingston, islas Shetland del Sur.
