The channel (ca 1 km in length) seperates Omega Island and the island Bremeninsel. Both islands belong to the group of Melchior Islands, Palmer Archipelago, located on the western side of the Antarctic Peninsula. On older maps (Arg. 1957/UK Hydr. Office 1986/BAS 1974) Bremeninsel is represented as a part of Omega Island. The existence of a channel between the two islands was detected on 2/2/2003, during a cruise of the MS "Bremen", by a zodiac excursion.
