Largest of small group of islands off Ferrer Point, Discovery Bay, Greenwich Island, South Shetland Islands, so called by CAE, 1947, after a hydrographer of the expedition who made a survey of the area (Chile. DNH chart 500, 1951). Islote Canales (Chile IHA, 1974, p.65) (APC, 2004).
