Narrative

Isolated triangular peak 2km NE of Stickle Ridge and 2.8 Km South of San José Pass, James Ross Island. Height c. 695 m a.s.l. has a conspicuous deep red pyroclastic unit on the north face. Named after Prof John L. Smellie (b.1953), senior BAS volcanologist and Project Leader, in charge of geological work on the James Ross Island Volcanic Group from 2000 to present.
