This name originates from United Kingdom. It is part of the Gazetteer of the British Antarctic Territory and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
Strait runs approximately 60 km in an east-west direction between Charcot Island and Latady Island. Links Wilkins Sound with the Bellingshausen Sea. Eastern end of strait opened up following the partial break-up of the Wilkins Ice Shelf in 2009. Named after Sir David Frederick Attenborough OM, CH, CVO, CBE, FRS, FSA, (b. 1926) naturalist and science broadcaster since 1954, who has broadcast extensively on the lives of animals and plants and on highlighting the impact of man's activities on the natural world and climate change (APC 2010).
