This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The 650 m wide cove indenting for 290 m the S coast of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, part of South Bay entered E of Yasen Point. The UK base camp Station P operated at the cove"s head in the 1957/58 summer season. British mapping in 1968, Chilean in 1971, Argentine in 1980, and Bulgarian in 2005 and 2009. Named after the Bulgarian physicist Matey Mateev (1940-2010) for his support for the Bulgarian Antarctic programme.
