Feature type: Landing
This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Informal Antarctic/sub-Antarctic Gazetteer.
The wharf area at the SW tip of the peninsula just south of Davis station.
Named after Ian Marchant, Expedition Leader on voyage 3, 1979/80. During December 1979, rotten sea ice, about a metre thick, was detected between the anchorage and the station. Also they had difficulty accessing the landing beach because of 4 metre deep snow drifts across the 'road' to the beach. OIC Ted Mitchener reported that there was clear water from the anchorage to Heidemann Bay and that this location would be the only place that cargo could be landed with access to the station, providing a connecting 'road' could be made. By the 10th January all cargo had been delivered via Marchant's Landing.
