This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The southern of two rocky islands in Smyadovo Cove on the W coast of Rugged Island in the South Shetland Islands. Situated 1.23 km S of Cape Sheffield and 300 m N by W of Ugain Point. The feature is 320 m long in E-W direction and 110 m wide. Separated from Rugged Island to the SE and Prosechen Island to the N by 40 m and 60 m wide passages respectively. Spanish mapping in 1992 and Bulgarian mapping in 2009. Named after Captain JoaquĆn de Toledo y Parra (1780-1819), commander of the Spanish warship San Telmo that sank with 644 men on board off the N coast of Livingston Island in September 1819.
