This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The 970 m wide passage in the Palmer Archipelago between Davis Island on the N and Albena Peninsula, Brabant Island on the S, connecting Bouquet Bay and Gerlache Strait. British mapping in 1978. Named after the settlement of Sumer in Northwestern Bulgaria.
