This name originates from China. It is part of the China Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
An icecap area, 585 kilometers away from the Zhongshan Station, is located at the east side of the route, which goes from Zhongshan Station to Dome A. There are several ice hillocks and gaps in the area. The icecap in the east side of JinyinTan is rather gentle and is approximately 2,700 metres high.It was named when satalliate images surveying and mapping in 2000.
