A small island immediately NE of Greater Mackellar Island in the Mackellar Islands, lying 3.7km N of Cape Denison in the centre of Commonwealth Bay.
The Mackellar Islands were discovered by AAE (1911-14) under Sir Douglas Mawson, who named them after C.D. Mackellar of London, a patron of the expedition. The name Lesser Mackellar Island is indicative of the size of the feature in relation to Greater Mackellar Island.
