This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The 230 m long in W-E direction and 170 m in S-N direction rocky island lying off Spert Island on the SW side of Trinity Island in the Palmer Archipelago. Situated 3.96 km NW of Bulnes Point, 1.27 km N of Melanita Island and 5.8 km W of Romero Point. British mapping in 1978.
Named after the ocean fishing trawler Feniks of the Bulgarian company Ocean Fisheries – Burgas whose ships operated in the waters of South Georgia, Kerguelen, the South Orkney Islands, South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula from 1970 to the early 1990s. The Bulgarian fishermen, along with those of the Soviet Union, Poland and East Germany are the pioneers of modern Antarctic fishing industry.
