This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The roughly pentagonal lake extending 300 m in W-E direction and 220 m in S-N direction in the central part of Flamingo Beach on the N coast of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands. Surface area 3.9 ha. Separated from the waters of Orión Passage by a 20 to 35 m wide strip of land. Situated at the base of Brusen Point and centred 1.42 km ENE of Terimer Point and 900 m WSW of Agüedo Point.
Named after the water deity Proteus in Greek mythology.
