This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The ice-covered island 2.7 km long in SW-NE direction and 1.4 km wide, largest in the Barcroft group of Biscoe Islands. Surface area 222 ha. Situated 1.28 km S of Watkins Island, 1.18 km W of Irving Island, 3.9 km N of Bedford Island and 3 km SE of Belding Island.
Named after St. Brigid of Kildare (c.?451–525), the patron saint of scholars.
