Narrative

Fresh water pond with low salinity, approximately 1249m², usually ice-covered in summer. Located on McMurdo Ice Shelf and south of Bratina Island.

Named For

Refers to its lack of salinity relative to Salt Pond and Brack Pond. One of a group of ponds subject to continuous monitoring since 1989. Name first applied by Professor S.J. de Mora (University of Auckland) during events K081, K013 in 1987. Surveyed and named on plan L&S 37/165 (1991).
