This name originates from New Zealand. It is part of the New Zealand Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
Shallow, hypersaline pond, approximately 241m². Located on McMurdo Ice Shelf and south of Bratina Island.
For the salt crystals (predominantly sodium sulphate) surrounding the pond and refers to its salinity. A theme with Brack Pond and Fresh Pond. One of a group of ponds subject to continuous monitoring since 1989. Name first applied by Professor S.J. de Mora (University of Auckland) during events K081, K013 in 1987. Surveyed and named on plan L&S 37/165 (1991).
