Feature type: Bluff
This name originates from New Zealand. It is part of the New Zealand Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
Mostly ice-free bluffs 90-100m high, north of where Rutkowski Glacier joins Beardmore Glacier at the northwest of Dominion Range.
Named for Dr Robin Langford Oliver (1921-2001), a New Zealand geologist and the first to study the bluffs in 1961. The name was first applied following an Ohio State University 1985/86 expedition under Professor Peter Noel-Webb. The feature is notable due to its fossiliferous deposits, including trees from the Pliocene (5.3 to 2.6 mya), meaning they grew near the South Pole in relatively recent geological time.
