This name originates from New Zealand. It is part of the New Zealand Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The historic site of Amundsen's South Pole camp.
The name given by Amundsen to his camp (and tent) at the South Pole from 14 to 17 December 1911. Any physical remains are long buried under accumulated snow, and one day may be conveyed to the coast by the flow of ice. Protected as HSM-80 Amundsen's Tent under the Antarctic Treaty System, also preventing attempts to dig for the tent.
