Named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Diane McKnight, research hydrologist, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), leader of USGS field teams over several years (1987-94), who made extensive studies of the hydrology and geochemistry of streams flowing into Lake Fryxell.
