Mapped by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1957-62. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for John L. Kohler, U.S. Navy (USN), construction electrician at McMurdo Station, 1965-66 and 1966-67.
