Ice-covered point on the east end of Missen Ridge, forming the north side of the entrance to Yule Bay, along the north coast of Victoria Land.

Mapped by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1960-63. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Lieutenant Thomas R. Bates, U.S. Navy (USN), Flight Surgeon and Medical Officer at McMurdo Station, 1964.
