Named in association with Crescent Glacier. The name was suggested by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) hydrologist Diane McKnight and was approved by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) and the New Zealand Geographic Board (NZGB) in 1994.
