A peak, c.2030m, at the east side of Starshot Glacier, 3.5km north of Mount Hotine, in Surveyors Range.
Named in theme by the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition (NZGSAE) (1960-61) for Felton Mathew (1801-1847), the first Surveyor-General of New Zealand. He was appointed in 1839 and in January 1840 came to the Bay of Islands with Governor Captain Hobson (of Treaty of Waitangi fame) on the HMS Herald.
