A prominent exposed rock on the northwest side of the Reeves Névé, in Victoria Land. It rises to c.2230m and is 10.5km east of Shepard Cliff. Feature depicted on: NZMS 166 SS55-57/12 (Oct 1965).
First proposed as 'Carbuncle', a descriptive name was applied by the Southern Party of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition (NZGSAE) during a visit to the feature in December 1962. While they were camped nearby for five days one of the members was ill with a boil on his hand. An astronomical station was established on the feature.
