This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The partly ice-free island extending 573 m in W-E direction and 520 m in S-N direction in the Dannebrog Islands group of Wilhelm Archipelago in the Antarctic Peninsula region. Surface area 14 ha. It abuts Padpadak Island on the S, and is stuated 815 m SSW of Hoatsin Island, 3.92 km W of Revolver Island and 1.9 km NE of Skoba Island.
So named because of its shape supposedly resembling a jester hat ('shut' being the Bulgarian for 'jester'), and in association with other descriptive names of islands in the area.
