This name originates from Germany. It is part of the Germany Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
A station for long-term seismological measurements. First installation of a 3-component seismometer in 1993/94. Expansion in 1997 to a multi-station measuring field of 2 km diameter, located on the ridge of the W foothills of the ice rise Halvfarryggen, 43 km SE of Neumayer-Station III, 15 km off the grounding line of Halvfarryggen with the ice shelf Ekströmisen, Kronprinsesse Märta Kyst, Neuschwabenland, Dronning Maud Land.
Named after the 2713 m high impressive mountain Watzmann located in the SE most part of Bavaria, Germany, as a home-loving, humoristic memento to the Bavarian alpine landscape, not at all existing at this Antarctic location.
