Feature type: Point
This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
A point located southeast of Powell Point, Vestfold Hills.
Captain Klarius Mikkelsen, master of the Norwegian flagged ship Thorshavn, first sighted and named the Vestfold Hills in 1935. He was accompanied by his wife, Caroline Mikkelsen, who was, significantly, probably the first woman to land in Antarctica. Thorshavn is variant spelling of Tórshavn. Tórshavn is the capital of the Faroe Islands (a group of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean belonging to Denmark).
