Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) in 1996 after Harold R. House, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) hydrologist, a member of the Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) field team during four summer seasons since 1993, who assisted in establishing stream gaging stations flowing into Lake Bonney and Lake Hoare.
