Mapped from air photographs taken by the US Navy. Named by United States Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after C.E. Twombley, US Weather Bureau, the first civilian at Little America V during U.S. Navy Operation Deep Freeze I, 1955-56 and a member of the winter party.
