Mapped from air photographs taken by the US Navy. Named by United States Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Robert A. Ragotzkie, project director for U.S. Antarctic Research Program (USARP) studies of lakes in the ice-free valleys, who made personal studies in Victoria Land during the 1962-63 season.
