Mapped from air photographs taken by the US Navy. Named by United States Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) ) in association with nearby Byrd Glacier, after USS Mount Olympus, flagship of U.S. Navy Operation Highjump (1946-47) led by Admiral Byrd.
