This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The automatic weather station (formerly known as GE03), was established in January 1982. It is located at an elevation of 1850 m.
Named for Henry R Phillpot, Antarctic Meteorologist, who in 1948 was a professional meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology in Melbourne, from 1959-65 was the leader of the International Antarctic Analysis Centre, Melbourne and from 1965-69 was leader of the International Antarctic Meteorological Research Centre in Melbourne. From 1969-78 he was in charge of the Synoptic Research Section of the Bureau of Meteorology and led the Basic Data Set Project for the first Global Atmospheric Programme (GARP) experiment. From 1978-80 he was the Head of the Research and Development Branch of the Bureau of Meteorology, Melbourne and from 1980-87 a Senior Associate with the Meteorology Department, University of Melbourne. The naming of the automatic weather station for Henry Phillpot recognises his contribution to the development of Antarctic Meteorology.
