This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer.

Narrative

A point on the west coast of Macquarie Island.

Named For

The name first appeared on the 1917 edition of the Admiralty Chart. Mawson suggested that the point was "possibly" named after the Hydrographer but as the sequence of names from north to south is Douglas Point, Mawson Point, Aurora Point and Davis Point it is suggested that the point is named after Sir Douglas Mawson.
