The trench is within the Australian Antarctic Territory on the north-west side of the Wilkes Subglacial Basin. The trench runs NE-SW and is separated from the main part of the Wilkes Subglacial Basin by the Southern Cross Subglacial Highlands. Discovered and mapped by radio echo sounding by the Scott Polar Research Institute.
Named after Major Eric Norman Webb, DSO, MC (1890-1984), magnetician with the Australian Antarctic Expedition, 1911-14.
