The bay on the west coast of Macquarie Island between Handspike Point and Elizabeth and Mary Point.
The name appears on a map prepared by Lieutenant William Langdon in 1822 as 'Half Moon Bay'. The name was originally gazetted as 'Half Moon Bay', but then regazetted as 'Halfmoon Bay'.
