This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer.
The ship the "Lord Nelson" was wrecked here in 1830. The name appears on the 1891 sketch map prepared by Captain Fairchild of the New Zealand Government steamer 'Hinemoa'. The map was used in the preparation of the 1892 edtion of the Admriralty Chart.
