Feature type: Channel
This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
This channel (about 1 km long and less than 50 m wide at several points) is a tidal race linking Prydz Bay and Taynaya Bay, in the Vestfold Hills. It is a rushing turmoil at tidal extremes in summer. It is believed to be ice-dammed in winter.
Named for Roger Barker, an aquatic biologist at Davis in 1975, who worked in this area tagging seals and water sampling. He subsequently died after an accident at Macquarie Island.
