Feature type: Cove
This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer.
This was the site of the first seaborne landing on the Island. The landing was made by a LARC (amphibious vehicle) from the MV Cape Pillar during the Australian National Mapping Expedition 1980. A small sheltered cove at the head of Williams Bay, McDonald Island. It has a sandy beach at low tide and provides the best landing place on the Island. There is access to the main part of the Island by a penguin ramp at the northern end of the beach. With the volcanic eruption On McDonald Island in 2003 the original LARC Cove disappeared. Name recycled.
