Feature type: Glacier
This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer.
A small glacier on Heard Island between Mt Drygalski and the lower point of North West Cornice. The name was proposed by Drygalski in Zum Kontinent des eisigens Sudens in Berlin in 1904. Drygalski makes acknowledgement in successive paragraphs to Count Baudissin and to Dr J. Schmidt of the Royal Prussian Ministry concerned with the expedition. The association of the names Baudissin and Schmidt on the first occasion on which Drygalski was assigning names suggests that Dr J. Schmidt is the person so honoured.
Dr J. Schmidt
