This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer.

Narrative

The Glacier on the western side of Heard Island drains to South West Bay between Erratic Point and Cape Gazert.

Named For

Named by Drygalski for Richard Vahsel, officer of Gauss and of the landing party, 3 Feb 1902. Vahsel was later capt of Filchner's Deutschland and died Aug 1912 during the drift of the Deutschland.
