This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
A major ice gully (0.75 km long and 30 m deep) cut by a melt water stream in the plateau ice at the edge of the Vestfold Hills. The north facing side is a cliff showing the strata of the plateau ice and the floor and south facing sides are mantled by moraine.
Named as it is an impressive and desolate place at the edge of the Vestfold Hills.
