An island, about 6 km long and rising to 150 m above sea level, in the central part of the XGroup. First visited by an ANARE party led by R. Dovers in 1954. Renamed after the star, Alphard.
Mapped by Norwegian cartographers from aerial photographs taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition (1936-37) and called Mexya (The Middle Island).
