The largest, central island of the Flat Islands, about 2 km WNW of Mawson. This island is one of several plotted as one island by Norwegian cartographers from aerial photographs taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition (1936-37), and called Flatxy (Flat Island).
Named after J M Bechervaise, Officer-in-Charge at Mawson, 1955 and 1959.
