Narrative

Las islas Biscoe fueron descubiertas en 1832 por la Expedición Británica al mando de John Biscoe y levantadas por la Expedición Antártica Francesa de 1903-1905 y por la de 1908-1910, ambas bajo el mando de Charcot. El nombre actual data de 1963 y corresponde a los apellidos del Piloto L. Aguirre Romero, de la escampavía "Yelcho" de la Armada de Chile, que en agosto de 1916, rescató a los náufragos del "Endurance" de la expedición británica de Sir Ernest Shakleton, desde la isla Elefante, en algunas cartas antiguas figuró como cabo Lively.
