Narrative

El nombre le fue puesto en febrero de 1961 por la Expedición Antártica Chilena de ese año y corresponde al apellido del capitán de corbeta Mario Alfaro Cabrera, comandante del AGS. "Yelcho" de la Armada de Chile, quien ejecutó el levantamiento hidrográfico de ese paso. Paso que se forma entre la isla Rivera y el continente, desde el cabo Tisné hasta la ensenada Duarte, en la costa occidental de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
