El punto en el cual el glaciar Bingham alcanza la costa, fue fotografiado en 1928 por Sir Hubert Wilkins, en 1935 por Lincoln Ellsworth y cartografiado por la BGLE de 1934-1937, al mando de John Rymill, quien, junto con E.W. Bingham, cruzó en trineo la península Tierra de O'Higgins, corta distancia al S de la depresión transversal, en 1936. También fue cartografiado en 1940 por el USAS. El nombre le fue puesto por el Comité Asesor sobre Nombres Antárticos de los EE.UU. y corresponde al apellido del capitán de corbeta E.W. Bingham, RN, de la BGLE. Gran glaciar que fluye hacia la costa oriental de Tierra de O'Higgins, a la que cruza completamente, descargando al S de la sierra Finley. Junto con el glaciar Fleming, que fluye hacia el W, llena una gran depresión transversal a través de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
