El nombre les fue dado por el apellido del capitán de navío John Biscoe, RN (Ret), quien dirigió la Expedición Británica de 1830-1832, en las naves "Tula" y "Lively", enviada por sus armadores, la empresa Enderby Brothers, de Londres. El capitán Biscoe exploró estas islas el 17 y 18 de febrero de 1832. Cordón de islas e islotes de 85 millas de largo, que se extiende paralelo a la costa occidental de Tierra de O'Higgins a una distancia media de 20 millas, desde las islas Pitt hasta el estrecho Matha. Las principales son: islas Pitt, isla Renaud, isla Rabot, isla Serrano e isla Watkins.
